In Kind Direct donor survey
Big thanks to everyone who took part in the In Kind Direct Donor survey and congratulations to Sharon Hurdsman at SCA Tissue, lucky winner in the draw for a bottle of wine.
A few of the results we found interesting:
- 63% donate to In Kind Direct because it’s an easy way to benefit lots of different charities. 45% donate because it avoids waste and landfill and 40% say it provides a cost efficient way to clear warehouse space
- The type of stock donated range considerably. However, the most common donation made is end of lines 47%. Other types of goods you send our way include slight seconds 29%, promotional stock 27%, items with faulty packaging 24% in addition to short dated stock, unwanted office goods and products with discontinued branding.
- 59% of respondents say they will be able to donate the same amount of stock as last year whilst 6% say they will have more available, however 35% believe they will have less to donate.
- We were surprised to see that 43% of respondents said that they still send usable surplus stock to landfill or external recycling, as well as donate to IKD.
- Whilst 69% thought that there was nothing more we could do to encourage companies to donate more goods, 14% want more regular reports, 15% would like to see reporting on the carbon impact of donations and 9% wanted more chance to engage with charities.
We work continuously to find new companies to get involved so were delighted that so many of you suggested contacts at companies which could donate. Please do keep these coming.
You’ve given us a great idea of what we need to do more of to meet the continuing needs of our growing charity network – thank you!
