P&G UK win national in-kind giving award for community work
The first national award for in-kind giving was last night presented to P&G UK by HRH The Prince of Wales, the founder of charity In Kind Direct. The award, which was made at Business in the Community’s Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner on 12 July, was in recognition of an outstanding contribution from P&G UK to developing in-kind giving as a highly practical way of helping the community, Over 1000 charities have benefited from the generosity of the company, which manufactures some of the UK’s best-known household brands.
P&G has been a major donor for four years to In Kind Direct, which re-distributes surplus goods from industry to a network of charities across the UK which between them help over a million people both in this country and abroad. P&G UK’s brands are ideally suited to their needs, with clothes washing, personal hygiene and household cleaning products being constantly in demand. The company is an outstanding example of recognising and strengthening the link between the products it manufactures and the communities it serves.
David Thomas, chairman of In Kind Direct, said, “P&G UK are a shining star of in-kind giving and we hope other companies will follow their brilliant example. Companies have so much impact by donating products – it’s such an innovative way of helping those to whom life has dealt a rough deal”.
