We believe in digital inclusion

We believe getting people online is fundamental to creating a fairer world. We work with over 6,000 UK charitable organisations, and almost half are supporting people experiencing digital poverty.

Not having access to the digital world means not having the freedom to live as you choose, and limits social mobility. From accessing social security to healthcare, education and training and finding work – critical services are more frequently and primarily online. Being unable to get online isn’t just an inconvenience, it compounds poverty and increases existing inequalities.

In the coming year, we’ll be reviewing our own website accessibility, and continuing to provide refurbished laptops and devices to communities. In 2023, we distributed over 1,000 laptops!

Our partnership with Foxway to provide refurbished laptops and one year warranty for our network came to an end in 2025. We are proud that in one year alone the initiative saved 78,000 kg of CO2e, the equivalent of taking 700 cars off the road when compared to buying new.

We are proud to stand with the Digital Poverty Alliance, who launched this day last year, and have signed the Charter for Digital Inclusion. As part of this, we have pledged to:

  • Raise awareness, by advocating on behalf of our charitable network, and in collaboration with other national organisations for long term change. We promote digital inclusion through public campaigns, evidence submissions to government reviews, and signpost resources to our corporate partners and charitable network.
  • Ensure accessible services, by undertaking a digital accessibility review of our own platforms, to implement improvements in the next 12 months. We also participate in roundtable discussions and shared learning between our networks that illustrate the barriers created by inaccessible services.
  • Distribute devices to a network of over 6,000 local charitable organisations. This includes devices, data and other tech equipment.
  • Develop digital skills by supporting our network partners in providing digital skills support in their communities. The savings we unlock for our network will be used to meet their own running costs, start new services, and extend their reach to new audiences.
