Our priorities for the next Government

The ongoing cost-of-living crisis is seeing more people than ever having to make choices between eating, heating and keeping clean. We support 445,000 people every week by distributing donated products through our network of charitable organisations. But this is a solution to a problem that should not exist.

Action must be taking to alleviate immediate need, fix the systems that force people to go without essentials, and fully strengthen the communities that support them. This document sets out what the next Government must prioritise in order to respond to today’s need and reduce tomorrow’s.

Our priorities for the next Government

Our latest research found that 9.9 million adults in the UK are living in hygiene poverty, almost a million more than in 2023. In 2022, we mapped the systemic causes of hygiene poverty, creating a roadmap to change for Government, businesses and charities. We identified the issues that have a compounding effect for people who are already disadvantaged, and experiencing hygiene poverty. The Government must focus on these six priority areas so more people can live well.
